The Science of CBD

The Science of CBD

Way back in the 1990s, an important discovery was made: you and CBD are meant for each other.

CBD (short for cannabidiol) is one of the 80+ compounds (called phytocannabinoids) found in the incredible hemp plant. Scientists only recently learned that human beings are all born with an Endocannabinoid System (or “ECS”) which exists to receive and respond to cannabinoids like, for instance, CBD. 😮

They also learned that the ECS, a complex inter-connected network inside each of us, regulates key functions in the body and is largely responsible for maintaining homeostasis – our natural state of balance. In fact, according to this research, endocannabinoids are present in breast milk, suggesting that the ECS plays a major role in human development.

You and Plants: A Symbiosis

The ECS is working 24/7 to regulate functions like mood, pain, and sleep, but internal imbalances or external stressors can throw this system out of whack.  When that happens, our bodies can use some help to rebalance. That's where plants come in.

Research has shown that small, daily doses of naturally occurring phytocannabinoids can stand in for the body’s own endocannabinoids, and that supplementing with hemp-derived CBD helps support the ECS – our most important system for maintaining wellbeing. That's where we come in.

In short, CBD + You = 😌

CBD: Pot or Not?

CBD is non-psychoactive. While hemp and marijuana both come from the Cannabis Sativa plant species, only the marijuana plant produces a high level of THC, the psychoactive compound. The hemp plant on the other hand, is classified as having less than 0.3% THC.

Hemp-derived CBD is legal in the United States per the signing of the 2018 Farm Bill, which ended the era of hemp prohibition. 🎉!

This means CBD can give you all the beneficial properties of cannabis without any intoxicating effects.
